Hearing you need a root canal may send shivers down your spine, because root canals have such a reputation for being painful. We perform a lot of root canals at Cascade Endodontics in Orem, and we can assure you: they do not live up to their fearsome reputation!
When done properly, root canals are highly successful and can save you from having a tooth extracted. We are using this blog post to dispel some of the more common misconceptions about root canal therapy.
- Root canals are painful. This is probably the single most common misconception: that root canals are like some medieval torture. Thanks to recent advances in dentistry, though, the discomfort level of root canal treatment is about the same as having a cavity filled.
- Root canals are temporary. Far from it! Successful root canal therapy is usually long-lasting. With proper care afterward, the tooth that was treated can last indefinitely.
- Root canals involve tooth root extraction. Given the name, it’s not surprising many people think this. In fact, endodontic treatment – the proper name – involves removing infected soft tissue, or pulp. Then the tooth is disinfected and sealed.
At Cascade Endodontics in Orem we have a lot of experience with root canal therapy, and assure you they are safe and effective. Please call our office to schedule an appointment today!
