“Hello and welcome to Cascade Endodontics. The following video will explain all post-surgical instructions. Please pay close attention to the instructions as they will promote healing, prevent complications, and help make you as comfortable as possible until the process is complete. When brushing and flossing, avoid the area for a week after surgery or until otherwise instructed. The rest of your mouth should be cleaned as usual. You may experience discomfort after the anesthetic wears off. Take prescribed pain medication as directed. Some medications may affect your judgment and reaction time. Do not drive or operate dangerous equipment while under the influence of pain medication. Please be sure to carefully follow the usage instructions with any prescribed or over-the-counter pain medications. We may have placed sutures. If so, you will need to return to our office in three to five days to have them removed. Do not show your surgical site to your friends as this may loosen the sutures and slow the healing process. Expect swelling after the surgery. Apply an ice pack 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off for the first 24 hours after surgery. Slight oozing or bleeding from the surgical site is totally normal. Avoid spitting, vigorous rinsing, or sucking actions as these will encourage bleeding. If bleeding occurs, apply pressure to the area for several minutes. If applying pressure does not stop the bleeding, take a soap black tea bag and apply it directly to the area with pressure. If this still does not stop the bleeding, contact our office immediately or go straight to the emergency room. Stick primarily to a softer bland diet during the first 24 hours after surgery. Doing so will promote rapid healing and good results. Avoid foods that are sticky, chewy, crunchy, hot and temperature, spicy or acidic, or anything that can scratch or harm your gums. Avoid these foods for about a week. The use of tobacco products inhibits the gum healing process. Please do not smoke for 48 hours and refrain from smoking as long as possible. Limit your physical activity for 48 hours after surgery as an increase in blood flow and heart rate can cause more swelling and bruising. After this, you may resume your normal exercise activity and routine. Finally, avoid blowing your nose forcefully as this may cause damage to your sinus memory. If you have any questions or concerns, please refer to our frequently asked questions page on our website or contact our office at 801-404-5810. Thank you so much for your attention during this video. Please remember to follow these directions as they’ll make the healing process more comfortable, prevent complications, and promote overall health.”
“Hello and welcome to Cascade Endodontics. The following video will explain all post-root canal instructions. By now, you will have completed your root canal, but it is important that you follow these instructions very carefully in order to promote healing and to make you as comfortable as possible until the process is complete. First of all, do not become alarmed if your tooth becomes sensitive to biting or touch. This is totally normal after treatment. Pamper your tooth by avoiding sticky and crunchy foods, and chew on the opposite side of your mouth for several days. Be sure to follow the usage instructions on over-the-counter pain relief medications. Over-the-counter ibuprofen is recommended after treatment. If ibuprofen alone is not relieving the discomfort, you may alternate it with Tylenol every three hours. If you have been previously prescribed medications, continue taking them as necessary, but additional prescribed medications are rarely necessary.
Your temporary filling will need one hour to harden. It is important that the tooth remains sealed. If you feel you have lost the filling, first check in the mirror to see if you can see it. If you do not see the white filling, contact our office immediately. It is imperative that you return to your dentist right away so that your tooth can be restored with a permanent filling or crown. Your dentist will be sent x-rays and a report to inform them that your treatment was completed. Please schedule your appointment right away. Should any questions or difficulties arise, you may refer to our frequently asked questions page on our website or contact our office at 801-404-5810. Thank you so much for your attention during this video. Please remember to follow these directions as they will make the healing process more comfortable, prevent complications, and promote overall health.”
