A cracked tooth is not something to be taken lightly. If you’ve cracked a tooth, you already know how painful it can be. The simple act of chewing can cause pain; so can eating or drinking things that are hot or cold. We can provide relief at Cascade Endodontics in Orem.
There are lots of ways that teeth can become cracked. One of the most common is from a trauma, like being hit in the face during sports activity. Another common cause is biting on something hard; ice is a common culprit. Or it could be a case of a tooth being weakened by a cavity.
If you’ve got a cracked tooth, or think you might, schedule an appointment to see us right away. Sometimes a cracked tooth doesn’t require much in the way of treatment. Cracks in the tooth enamel, known as craze lines, are simple cracks that should be looked at. Treatment may be as simple as smoothing out any rough spots by polishing.
Some cracks are more serious. The crack might extend from the chewing surface of a molar down into the tooth root. These types of cracks can sometimes be repaired by bonding, which is the application of a tooth-colored resin. If there is damage to the pulp, a root canal may be necessary to prevent further damage.
At Cascade Endodontics in Orem, one of our specialties is saving cracked teeth. If a root canal is necessary we can provide sedation to get you through the procedure. Remember: the sooner the cracked tooth is treated, the better the outcome will be. Call us right away!
