Some people love watching scary movies, because their fear becomes a rush. Their heart races, they jump at every small noise and their adrenaline pumps as the onscreen plot develops. In a movie theater these reactions may be fun and exciting but what about at an appointment with your dentist or endodontist? If you experience extreme fear or anxiety about having a root canal treatment or any other dental procedure, you may be a prime candidate for sedation dentistry. Dental fear is a very common affliction and your Orem endodontist Dr. Jon Jenson offers a variety of ways for you to relax during your next visit.
Nitrous Oxide
Also known as ‘laughing gas’ this method of sedation is the least intensive. Patients breathe in the odorless, colorless gas to feel relaxed and happy. While using this form of sedation dentistry, patients are able to respond to questions and interact with the endodontist.
Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation offers a deeper state of relaxation. Patients simply take a pill before the dental procedure. You may feel slightly groggy but will be extremely relaxed during your visit to the endodontist. This option decreases your anxiety and gives you little to no memory of the details of your procedure.
IV Sedation
The effect of IV sedation is very similar to oral conscious sedation. However, rather than taking a pill, cosmetic dental patients receive the medication intravenously. This option takes effect more quickly and can be used with patients who do not have a fear of needles.
No matter what sedation option you decide, your dentist will make sure you are relaxed and comfortable before treatment begins. Don’t let your fear of the endodontist prevent you from getting the dental care you need.
If the idea of having your endodontist in a dental mask is as scary as Freddy Krueger, ask Dr. Jon Jenson for an Orem area sedation dentistry consultation.
