Root canal therapy is a dental procedure that can save a decayed or damaged tooth. At Cascade Endontics in Orem we want to do everything possible to save natural teeth from extraction.
The term “root canal” is often used to describe a procedure. That term, strictly speaking, is incorrect – just as it’s incorrect to view it as something painful and to be avoided.
Root Canals
Root canals are, in fact, the hollow chambers inside teeth that contain soft tissues like dental pulp. These tissues are vulnerable to infection if a tooth is decayed or damaged.
Root canal therapy, also known as endodontic treatment, addresses the infection by removed infected tissue. The infected tissue will not get better on its own. If it isn’t removed the tooth will ultimately need to be extracted.
The procedure itself is no more painful than having a cavity filled. The area being worked on is fully numbed. There may be a little discomfort for a few days afterward, but it can be controlled.
At Cascade Endodontics in Orem we specialize in endodontic treatment. Please call our office to schedule an appointment today – and save your teeth!
