Have you ever had a chip or small crack in your windshield? Over time if the crack isn’t repaired it will grow and sometimes necessitate getting rid of the windshield and replacing it. This same scenario can happen to our teeth; however, our teeth are much more complicated to replace. It’s easier to repair a cracked tooth early only before it spreads through the crown and even into the root. Here are some symptoms that can help you determine if you have cracked teeth:
o Pain when Chewing
o Temperature sensitivity
o Sharp Pain after release of bite
If you have some of these symptoms it is a good idea to call your endodontist to setup an exam. Many times a cracked tooth has propagated so much that it has affect the pulp and will need root canal therapy. There are other instances where the tooth can start cracking from the root side of the tooth and this is also a problem that needs to be addressed as soon as possible by your endodontist. Diagnosing cracked teeth is not something procrastinate because the longer you wait the more pain and money will be involved.
