How many appointments does it take to complete root canal therapy? It varies, but it usually takes two – three, if you count an initial consultation. At Cascade Endodontics in Orem we have years of experience performing root canals.
Root canal therepy, which is properly called endodontic therapy, refers to cleaning out infected soft tissue within a tooth, and then sealing it all up. If you find out you need one, don’t worry: a typical root canal isn’t nearly as painful as urban legend might have you believe. In terms of discomfort, they’re about the same as having a cavity filled.
Number of Visits
In the first session of a typical root canal procedure we’ll create access to the inner part of the tooth. Using specialized tools, the infected pulp is cleaned out. The remaining hollow chamber – which, strictly speaking, is the actual “root canal” – is disinfected, filled in, and sealed. The area is covered with a temporary filling or crown.
The second session comes a couple of weeks later. The temporaries are removed, and a permanent crown goes over the treated tooth. Once it does then the tooth is strong again.
At Cascade Endodontics in Orem we have done a lot of root canal treatment. Please call our office to schedule an appointment today!
