Everyone has a pain threshold. We might not know it – but then something comes along and draws a line in the sand. Step over that line and you’re in a world of hurt. At Cascade Endodontics in Orem, we provide sedation dentistry to ease pain and reduce anxiety.
One of the procedures we perform most often is a root canal. Root canals have the reputation of being painful, but we take a different point of view. Since a root canal treats a seriously infected tooth, we think of them as an antidote: that they relieve pain, rather than cause it.
But when you’re the one sitting in the dentist chair, you may see it a little differently. And that’s where sedation dentistry comes in. We have three different levels.
- Nitrous Oxide. More commonly known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide has been used in dentistry for more than a hundred years. It is known to be both safe and effective. It might not make you laugh, but it will put you in a deeply relaxed state.
- Oral Conscious Sedation. This is a a moderate level of sedation. You take a sedative about an hour before your scheduled procedure, and go into a very relaxed state. Most patients stay awake, but are not very aware of their surroundings, and don’t usually remember much of the procedure. You will need a ride home when it’s over.
- IV Sedation. IV sedation is administered intravenously. It works quickly and is very effective. Most patients do not go completely under with IV sedation, but are very groggy. It too has an amnesic effect, so you won’t remember your procedure. And you will have to have someone drive you home afterward.
With sedation dentistry, the team at Cascade Endodontics in Orem creates a relaxing atmosphere to get you through the most difficult procedure. In addition to root canals, we perform apicoectomies, treat traumatic dental injuries, and toothaches. And we make it pain-free. Schedule a consultation or an appointment with us today.
