We use our teeth to bite and chew, and that’s first thing that comes to mind for most people when they think about their pearly whites. But there is a lot more to teeth than that, much of it beneath the surface. Beneath the surface of teeth is our specialty at Cascade Endodontics in Orem.
Within each tooth is a network of tiny passage that house blood vessels and nerves. Endodontists specialize in treating this part of the tooth, which is referred to collectively as the pulp.
When the passages holding the pulp becomes infected it can lead to a lot of pain. These passages are also called canals, and treating the soft tissue is root canal therapy.
Root canal therapy is the most common treatment that we perform, though it is not the only one. Root canal therapy has the reputation of being painful, but the truth is really the opposite. We do root canal therapy to relieve the pain caused by the infection of the soft tissue. The discomfort caused by the therapy is almost always minor and temporary.
We also perform apicoectomies. That’s when infected tissue is removed from the very tip of a tooth’s root. In addition, we treat pulp that has been damaged in a dental trauma, as well as re-treating failed root canal therapies.
While root canal therapy is not seriously painful, we also specialize in pain management in the form of sedation dentistry. At Cascade Endodontics in Orem we take many patients referred to us by general dentists. Call our office to schedule an appointment today.
